Dimensions are measured in pixels (for example 1920 × 1080 px) and describe how many pixels the image contains. File size is measured in KB or MB and describes how much storage the encoded file takes. They are linked but not the same: halving the dimensions removes about 75% of the pixels and usually shrinks the file dramatically, while compression lowers the file size without touching the dimensions. This tool lets you control both at once.

Downscaling is always resampling, so some pixel information is discarded — but visible quality loss can be avoided. Reduce dimensions in a single step rather than repeatedly, never scale above 100%, keep the aspect ratio locked so the image is not stretched, export to WebP at quality 80–85 (visually lossless for most photos) or PNG for flat graphics and screenshots, and only go as small as the space where the image is actually displayed.

Match the display area: 1920 px wide for full-width website banners, 1200 px for blog and article images, 1200 × 630 px for social share cards, 1080 × 1080 px for Instagram posts, 1000 px for product photos, 600 px for thumbnails and 400 px for avatars.
